An off-duty Los Angeles police officer has died after being shot throughout an tried armed theft, in keeping with a police union.

"Tonight, we mourn the lack of considered one of our officers who was shot & killed in an armed theft try," the Los Angeles Police Protecting League stated on Twitter.

"The officer was off-duty. We pray for the officer's household, and their fellow officers, throughout this time of ache and sorrow."

The tweet added that an investigation was underway.

ABC7 reported that the capturing occurred close to 87th Avenue and Seaside Avenue in Walnut Park at round 9:20 p.m. on Monday.

The officer was transported to St. Francis Medical Heart in Lynwood by an L.A. County sheriff's deputy, in keeping with the station. His identify was not instantly launched.

The Los Angeles Police Division has been contacted for remark.
