A Nazi focus camp survivor has reportedly been killed by Russian shelling at his residence in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Boris Romantschenko, 96, survived the Buchenwald, Peenemünde, Dora and Bergen-Belsen focus camps throughout World Warfare II.

"Now he has been killed by a bullet that hit his home," the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Basis tweeted, saying his demise.

"He was 96 years previous," the inspiration stated. "We're surprised."

The Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Basis stated it was instructed by Romantschenko's family members that he was killed on March 18 in a bomb blast in his residence in Kharkiv—Ukraine's second largest metropolis.

"In line with his granddaughter, he lived in a multi-story constructing, which was hit by a shell. Boris Romantschenko labored intensively on the reminiscence of Nazi crimes and was vice-president of the Buchenwald-Dora Worldwide Committee," the submit stated.

The mayor of Kharkiv stated final week that the town has been underneath fixed assault by Russian troops.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated in a televised interview on March 15 that greater than 600 buildings have been destroyed within the metropolis since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

"Colleges, nurseries, hospitals, clinics have been destroyed. The Russian military is consistently shelling (us) from the bottom and the air," he stated.
