Procurement minister won't say how much F-35s will cost


As Canada enters negotiations to buy F-35 fighter jets, the federal procurement minister will not give a particular quantity on how a lot they may price.


Showing on CTV Information Channel's Energy Play on Monday, host Evan Solomon pressed Minister Filomena Tassi repeatedly on an estimated price for the fighter jets.


“Have you learnt the ultimate variety of the price range over the lifespan of the jet?” Solomon requested Tassi. “I can’t share the main points of what the associated fee is as a result of that might compromise the method,” she responded.


The federal authorities is in ultimate negotiations with Lockheed Martin Company to exchange Canada’s CF-18s with 88 new fighter jets. The federal government beforehand budgeted as much as $19 billion for the jets.


In 2015, the Liberal election marketing campaign platform included a promise to not purchase F-35s, saying a Liberal authorities would as a substitute buy a lower-priced fighter jet.
