Greece: Man, believed homeless, crushed in 'robot dumpster'

THESSALONIKI, Greece -


Authorities in northern Greece say a person has been killed in an automatic dumpster after opening the bin and searching inside, apparently in quest of meals.


Police stated the unidentified man, believed to be homeless and aged round 40, was trapped within the bin and crushed to demise when the compactor mechanism was activated.


The incident occurred Monday within the northeastern Greek port metropolis of Alexandroupolis, some 800 kilometres (500 miles) northeast of Athens.


Personnel from the fireplace service and paramedics arrange a display across the dumpster as they eliminated the person's physique close to the centre of town.


Recognized regionally as "robotic dumpsters," the tall, cylinder-shaped bins have been put in in lots of smaller municipalities. The compactors assist cut back the frequency of rubbish pickups in addition to the odour from the rubbish through the sizzling summer time months.
