Crew and passengers are protected after a hearth broke out on a Carnival cruise ship at Grand Turk, within the Turks and Caicos islands, on Thursday morning.
The ship, the Carnival Freedom, had departed Port Canaveral, Florida, on Monday for a five-day cruise.
"Carnival Freedom's emergency response staff shortly activated and extinguished a hearth contained in the ship's funnel whereas the ship was in Grand Turk," Carnival stated in a press release offered to Newsweek on Thursday. "All visitors and crew are protected, and the ship's visitors have been cleared by native authorities to go ashore. We proceed to evaluate the scenario."

Earlier this week, in a separate incident, the Coast Guard stated that some passengers aboard a Carnival cruise ship heading to Norfolk, Virginia, reported they have been feeling ailing after smelling chemical fumes.
In current months, Carnival has seen a spike in reserving following the Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention's (CDC) determination to rescind its COVID-19 advisory for cruise journey in late March.
