Southwest Edmonton apartment building evacuated because of fire


A four-storey residence constructing in southwest Edmonton was evacuated due to a fireplace early Friday morning.


As of seven a.m., no accidents had been reported in connection to the blaze at Pineridge Flats at 2207 118 St.


The hearth was believed to have originated in a one-storey constructing within the courtyard that's hooked up to the flats.


A fourth-floor resident, Vern Mitchell, advised CTV Information Edmonton he awoke possibly 5 minute earlier than the alarm went off at 6:30 a.m.


"I may odor smoke. But it surely did not actually daybreak on me; I used to be half awake," he recalled.


"It smelled prefer it was proper exterior the door, truly."


At 7 a.m., the hearth was thought of beneath management and firefighters have been persevering with to assault the flames from a gap within the roof.


Mitchell stated the courtyard constructing serves as a typical space and storage room.
