Body recovered after golf cart crashes into golf club pond: Cops

The body of a 71-year-old has been recovered after a cart crashed into a pond at a golf club in Richmond Hill on Monday.

York Regional Police were called to the DiamondBack Golf Club in the Leslie St.-Bayview Ave. area around noon for a report of a golf car entering a pond and a possible drowning. Upon arrival, police learned that the golf cart along with a man were submerged in the pond.

Police say the unnamed man’s body was found by the marine unit shortly before 4 p.m. after first responders were initially unable to find him in the water.

Staff-Sgt. Dave Mitchell told CityNews the man “lost control of the golf cart before going into the pond.”

“Other golfers on the course tried to locate the individual before police arrived,” said Mitchell.

A coroner will be attending the scene to confirm the identity of the man.

Police are still trying to determine how the golf cart found its way into the pond. It’s also not known whether the man was operating the cart alone or whether he was with other golfers at the time of the crash.
