Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are hitting the road next year, but Canada isn’t on their itinerary — at least so far.
Springsteen has announced he’ll play 31 shows south of the border beginning Feb. 1, 2023, in Tampa, Fla., before wrapping April 14 in his home state of New Jersey. The group will then head overseas for a round of stadium shows beginning April 28 in Spain that will continue on into July.
A second round of North American dates — which will presumably include some Canadian shows — will kick off next August.
The 2023 gigs will mark Springsteen’s first tour since he and the E Street Band ended a 14-month trek to commemorate the 35th-anniversary of The River in 2017. After a successful stint on Broadway, the Boss reconvened with his longtime bandmates in 2019 releasing Letter to You the following year.
“After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year — and beyond,” Springsteen said in a statement.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio in May, Springsteen spoke about his desire to hit the road again.
“It doesn’t feel that long” since the band last played live, he told host Jim Rotolo. “We’ve stayed busy over that time but still I have got the jones to play live very badly at this point, so I am deeply looking forward to getting out there in front of our fans.”
But in a 2014 interview with USA Today, the 72-year-old Springsteen said he realized there was a “finiteness” to his time on the road.
“I believe the band’s going to be playing for a great deal longer, all right, but not forever anymore, as you felt when you were 32 years old,” he said at the time. “You’re playing for an audience who will significantly outlive you now which is kind of both wonderful and bittersweet…”
Tickets for most U.S. shows go on sale July 17 via Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program, which fans have to register for in advance.
