Puppy reunited with owners after alleged theft in Scarborough caught on video

An eight-month-old puppy has been reunited with its owners after it was allegedly snatched by thieves just outside his Scarborough home on Friday night.

“What a relief,” owner Jan Duffy told CTV News Toronto after the scary situation came to a happy resolution.

Duffy had earlier posted to social media saying the pet had been stolen from their neighbour’s front yard.

“Please help me get my dog home! He was stolen from the front of my house on Homestead Rd. in Scarborough yesterday. He is an 8-month-old, Boston Terrier. My neighbours caught the abduction on video. Police have been notified, please share … we need him home,” Duffy wrote on social media.

The alleged theft happened just before 6 p.m. in the area Morningside Ave and Lawrence Ave.

One of Duffy’s neighbour’s surveillance video captured the incident involving Blue, the black and white Boston Terrier puppy.

The video shows a dark car driving by, stopping and then the driver’s window opens and Blue is coaxed over to the vehicle and allegedly snatched.

“You know what puppies are like, they’ll go to anyone,” Duffy told CTV News.

Const. Alex Li says Toronto Police got a call about the stolen puppy at 10:52 p.m. on Friday.

“A reportee advised their dog has been stolen. Officers attended and took a report. There is no further information on this call at this point, and it’s under investigation,” Li said.

Blue has a brother named Beau.

“He’s not doing anything. He knows his brother is missing,” Duffy said prior to the happy reunion.

A stranger responded to the pleas on social media saying a dog was found at a shelter.

Duffy said shelter officials told them the person who dropped off the dog suggested they had found a stray and were trying to help, she doesn’t see it that way.

“We are convinced this was not a Good Samaritan,” said said.
