TDSB probing allegation teacher taped students to chairs

A teacher with the Toronto District School Board has been placed on home assignment after allegedly taping two student to their chairs in the classroom.

The alleged incident happened in May at Etobicoke’s Seventh Street Junior School.

“When the school first learned of these allegations, it notified TDSB’s Employee Services department, Children’s Aid Society and the Toronto Police Service as per our procedures,” TDSB spokesman Ryan Bird said. “As a result, the teacher — and subsequently, a Designated Early Childhood Educator — has been put on home assignment pending the outcome of an investigation.

The board said it has “offered social work support for the students in the impacted class.”

Bird called the allegations “very serious, and, if true, would be completely unacceptable and could result in serious consequences up to and including dismissal.”

The board provided no further information and said they are investigating.
