Court records reveal the man at the centre of an Amber Alert, issued by Saskatchewan RCMP, for two missing children is a convicted child sex offender.
According to documents obtained by The Canadian Press, 50-year-old Benjamin Martin Moore, now of Eastend, Sask., was convicted in 2009 for sexual interference of a minor.
“He was sentenced in Regina provincial court to two years and two months in prison,” according to The Canadian Press. “Records say he served another three months in jail in 2011 after
he was convicted of breaching a recognizance order.”
A press conference was held at 3 p.m. in Regina on Tuesday where Chief Supt. Tyler Bates, the officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP south district management team, provided more details of an Amber Alert issued for two children who may have entered the U.S.
He said the two children are believed to be with their 45-year-old mother and her common-law partner, Moore. Bates said the children are in danger in the presence of the man. He also said Moore has a history of sexual offences against children and has been previously convicted of sexual interference and possession of child pornography.
“We are very concerned about the well-being of the children,” said Bates. “We feel they are in danger.”
On the evening of August 8, 2022, the Shaunavon RCMP issued the Amber Alert for the 7-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy.
Police say Moore may go by different names. Moore is described as five-feet-10-inches tall, weighing 200 lbs. with black hair.
The vehicle in the Amber Alert is described as a 2015 dark blue Chevy Equinox with Alberta licence plate CGC2492.
The public is asked to call 911 if they see any of these individuals or their vehicle or have information about their whereabouts. RCMP are planning on extending the Amber Alert to the United States. No further details were issued by RCMP.
