AOC mocked after faking being handcuffed at abortion demonstration

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was widely mocked on social media after she faked being handcuffed following her arrest at a pro-abortion protest.

AOC put her arms behind her back to suggest she was handcuffed outside the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C.

The lawmaker was escorted by a Capitol Police officer and made it appear as though she was restrained – until she raised a free fist to supporters on the sidewalk who weren’t blocking traffic.

She then put her arms behind her back – but people were quick to blast her for her charade.

“The Capitol Police must have put invisible handcuffs on @AOC!,” tweeted political columnist Camryn Kinsey.

Republic commentator Matt Whitlock wrote, “Oh my gosh @AOC faking handcuffs. This is too much,” while Fox News analyst Brit Hume called her “the queen of gestures.”

Businessman Jason Howerton added: “@AOC is such an expert at getting attention and narrative building that she PRETENDED to be handcuffed just so she could have this image on social media. There are no handcuffs on her lmfaoooo.”

Ocasio-Cortez took to her Instagram stories to address the accusations of her fake handcuffs.

“Republicans’ favourite hobby is to make conspiracy theories out of everything to distract you and keep you from talking about what’s actually important — which is the fact that they are trying to take away your right to bodily autonomy,” she said.

“If I was faking that, why would I intentionally first pump somebody? It’s so silly.”

Thirty-four people, including 16 members of Congress, were arrested, according to U.S. Capitol Police.

Those released from custody, including Ocasio-Cortez, were charged with crowding, obstructing or incommoding and were fined $50.

AOC also shared a photo of her ticket and fine on Instagram.
