Chuckwagon driver injured by alleged impaired driver outside Calgary nightclub

One of multiple people struck and injured by an alleged impaired driver on Saturday outside of Ranchman’s nightclub was a chuckwagon driver at the Calgary Stampede.

Katrina Ridsdale, Cody Ridsdale’s wife, said in a public Facebook post that Cody was struck by the vehicle while walking on the sidewalk early Saturday morning.

“Cody has three broken spinous process in T5-7 and the ribs went with them. He is lucky to be alive,” said Katrina in the post, adding that other friends were also struck by the vehicle.

“It will be awhile before Cody is back in the wagon box. I can’t thank each and every one of you that has reached out to us, lent a helping hand or support, enough.”

Calgary police said the driver is facing multiple charges related to impaired driving after hitting multiple men outside Ranchman’s nightclub on Macleod Trail around 1:15 a.m. Saturday. The suspect is a 20-year-old man.

Three of the men who were struck were taken to Foothills Medical Centre with traumatic injuries, EMS said on Saturday.

Katrina said their barn was full of help on Saturday morning after people heard what happened.

“We are so blessed to be a part of this wagon community,” she said. “I’m just so grateful to you all and for another trip around the sun with my best friend.”

Another driver, Chanse Vigen, took over Cody’s wagon for Sunday’s Rangeland Derby race, and Katrina said that despite the pain, Cody went back to the Calgary Stampede to watch the race.

The Calgary Stampede did not provide a statement by press time Monday.
