Ottawa Fire Services crew members extricated the driver from a vehicle that crashed near the intersection of Bank Street and Riverside Drive, and nearly fell into the Rideau River on Friday night.
A media release from the fire service said the Ottawa Police Service reported the crash at 8:27 p.m.
The initial information was that the vehicle had struck either a pole or a tree and was hanging off the side of the roadway, about to fall into the water, and the Ottawa Paramedic Service reported that the occupant was unconscious.
“The vehicle was sideways and hanging off the ledge at risk of falling approximately 15-20 feet down on its roof into the water,” the release added.
After the driver’s side door was removed, the occupant was extricated at 8:47 p.m.
Additional details on the status of the driver were unavailable Friday night.
