Florida girl, 12, played dead after father attacked her, allegedly killed younger sister

A 12-year-old girl in Florida survived a horrific attack from her father by playing dead after he attacked her and allegedly killed her three-year-old sister.

Juan Bravo-Torres, 39, of Longwood, Fla., fatally stabbed the younger daughter, then tried to kill the 12-year-old while she was sleeping, WOFL reported.

She initially thought her father was reaching for her necklace but he grabbed and cut her throat, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet.

He then went to get another knife and the 12-year-old went to escape her bedroom when she saw her dead sister in the hallway.

Bravo-Torres returned and the girl fought back and eventually “acted dead” so he would stop attacking her.

The girl then waited until she thought her father passed out, grabbed the knife he used to protect herself, then fled, walking about a mile to the McDonald’s where her mother worked.

“At that age, to be sleeping and woken up by being attacked with a knife, seeing your younger sister in the condition she was in, fighting off your father, and having the mindset to think, ‘How am I going to get out of this?’” Longwood police Sgt. Derek Chenoweth said in a news conference.

“When he lost consciousness, she got out of the house, and she went to where she knew her mom was, and it’s just remarkable,” he continued.

“Grown adults may not have been able to come to that decision, and this 12-year-old did that, and she’s alive today because of the choices that she made.”

When officers arrived at the home, they found Bravo-Torres unconscious in the bathroom and suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds to his torso, the outlet reported.

They also found the three-year-old daughter who was already dead.

The 12-year-old victim is in critical but stable condition, according to cops.

Bravo-Torres remains in hospital in critical condition under watch by police.

He was arrested and is now facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
