SPARTA, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a woman who suffered fatal injuries while allegedly trying to get out of a police vehicle.
The GBI said in a news release that 28-year-old Brianna Marie Grier died at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta on July 15.
It said Hancock County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home and Grier was arrested there. They said while Grier was being transported to the sheriff’s office, she fell out of the patrol car and was severely injured.
Grier’s family told 13WMAZ that she had been in the midst of a schizophrenic episode and her mother, Mary, had called the police for assistance. Grier was handcuffed and put into the car.
Later her parents were told Grier was being airlifted to hospital in Atlanta with a head injury suffered after she kicked the door open.
Grier died from multiple skull fractures, according to the report.
