The Winnipeg Jets signed centre Pierre-Luc Dubois to a one-year, $6 million contract after the 24-year-old restricted free agent accepted the team’s qualifying offer.
Dubois remains a candidate to be traded, having expressed a desire to play for the Montreal Canadiens in his home province and having told the Jets he does not intend to sign a long-term contract to stay in Winnipeg.
Dubois, acquired by the Jets in January of 2021 in a trade for high-scoring winger Patrik Laine, had a career-high 28 goals and 60 points for the Jets in the 2021-22 season.
Dubois will become a restricted free agent, with arbitration rights, after the 2022-23 NHL season. He can become an unrestricted free agent after the 2023-24 season if he does not sign a long-term deal.
Dubois is scheduled to speak to the media on Monday.
Dubois, who was selected third overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2016 NHL Draft, has 102 goals and 239 points in 361 career games.
The Jets traded Laine, drafted second overall in 2016, along with 2015 first-rounder Jack Roslovic, for Dubois.
