Peel Regional Police have charged one of their own with criminal offences.
On Tuesday, police with Peel’s Professional Standards Bureau announced they have laid charges against an officer stemming from an alleged off-duty incident that took place outside the Peel region.
Const. Jason Beccario, who has 16 years on the force and was recently awarded the Ontario Medal of Bravery, has been charged with two counts of assault.
Beccario was suspended with pay, as per the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act.
Beccario will appear in Brampton’s Ontario Court of Justice in the future and after the criminal proceedings he will face a Police Services Act hearing.
No other information has been provided.
The Indo-Canadian Voice recently published a story about Beccario and fellow constable Manikosh Pathak being awarded the Ontario Medal of Bravery by Ontario Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell in April “for their courage and poise under extreme pressure while apprehending an armed and dangerous individual.”
