Revenge-seeking N.C. woman sets fire to wrong house

A North Carolina woman allegedly set fire to the home of her ex-boyfriend – but it turned out, she had the wrong address.

Christie Louise Jones, 49, of Richfield, N.C., caused about $20,000 in damage when she allegedly lit up the home in nearby Gold Hill, N.C., on July 22, WBTV reported.

The homeowner was awoken by a neighbour who allegedly saw Jones trying to set the house ablaze with bundles of wood on the front porch.

Deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office later found a can of oil that they saw was used to light and spread the flames, and also discovered the homeowner’s above-ground pool had been slashed.

The homeowner came outside and went for the garden hose, but it didn’t work because Jones allegedly used an adhesive to seal off the water, according to the arrest report obtained by the outlet.

He grabbed a rifle and confronted Jones, who was standing near a car blocking his driveway. She reportedly didn’t say much and “just mumbled” before she fled the scene as authorities neared.

A witness told deputies that a former boyfriend of Jones owns property in the area and believe she may have targeted the wrong house.

Jones was arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree arson.

Authorities did not say why the woman was seeking revenge against her ex.
