A 41-year-old man, known previously to Toronto Police, has been charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000 and one count of failing to comply with probation following an incident over the weekend in the city’s east end.
Gerard Silas Purcell was arrested on July 16 and released by the courts on July 18.
“I believe he went up to a residence and rang the doorbell,” said Toronto Police Const. Laura Brabant. “And when the homeowner answered the door, whatever, they told him to go away, and I think he kicked a car and damaged a vehicle.”
Brabant said the incident happened in the Queen St. West and Claremont St area.
Purcell was previously arrested for alleged incidents in the Leslieville area between Jan. 23-26, and charged with attempted break and enter, assault, theft not exceeding $5,000, mischief/damage to property not exceeding $5,000 and four counts of breaching his probation.
He was also arrested following a Prowl By Night investigation between May-October 2021 during which police alleged a man was seen targeting several homes in the Leslie St. and Dundas St. area.
Purcell at that time was charged with four counts of attempted break and enter, two counts of prowl by night and trespass by night, and one count each of criminal harassment, assault and choking.
Brabant said Purcell “is currently not wanted by police,” but added: “Anyone can come forward and make an allegation and we would obviously investigate.”
