Petrol station incidents are reasonably common occurrences. Canadians drive off with the hose still in the filler neck or accidentally nick pumps every day, but this incident is almost vicious in nature. Watching the video, one must wonder if the driver has a personal vendetta against pumps.
The accident was caught by the station’s surveillance cameras and seems to begin as a “regular” driving mistake, before quickly turning into a vehicular assault on the Marché Pie XII fuel stations’ pumps on the corners of Labelle Road and Royal Avenue in Quebec City.
The 2017-2019 third-generation Ford Escape comes onto the scene determined to take out not one, but two pumps. We can tell the driver was aiming to down both pumps not only because we can the front wheels spinning slightly on three occasions following the initial impacts, but because of what happens next.
Shortly after, the reverse lights go on and the Escape backs out of the frame. At this point, most will think the driver’s fleeing the scene but no, not this one. The kicker, the headscratcher, the WTF-is-going-on-moment, comes when the Escape bursts back into the frame more determined than ever to destroy the other pump.
The driver achieved their goal but rolled the Escape in the process. The local police force showed up moments after the debacle took place. They had to break a window to get the driver out of the vehicle and she was taken to the hospital.
As it stands, she will have to provide a blood sample and is facing various charges including driving while under the influence.
The station shared the video to explain why only two of its pumps were working yesterday.
