Honda has released a video featuring a number of its designers from the Honda Design Studio in California working and pontificating on the upcoming 2024 Prologue EV, the first full-electric Honda bound for Canada.
The footage reveals the life-size clay model in the studio from a number of angles, including a close-up on the front end where a section of curved black material now runs the width from headlight to headlight, similar to the face of the Honda e. The headlights, however, are long, narrow, and horizontally-oriented, unlike the Honda e’s small circular units.
You can also see the full vehicle’s profile in a number of shots where the designers are speaking in front of the model, or working within virtual reality programs in collaboration with technicians back in Japan.
Exterior design project lead Jiro Ikeda says the SUV projects “capability and adventure,” and calls it “neo-rugged” design. If by “adventure,” he means driving it into the city and parking it in an underground structure next to thousands of other highly similar looking SUVs, then we agree.
In any case, it appears true to the sketches previously revealed, with a long hood and slightly sloping roof connected to a tilted rear window above horizontal LED taillights.
Other features visible on both the model and in the designers’ sketches include visually assertive six-spoke alloy wheels, dark cladding on the door bottoms that appears to almost run continuously up to the darkened front bumper, and black fender arches.
The Prologue will be based on GM’s Ultium EV platform that also underpins the new Chevrolet Blazer. The first North-American-bound Honda EV is expected to arrive sometime in 2024.
