Boy, 17, dead in Scarborough shooting

A 17-year-old boy is dead following a Scarborough shooting that prompted police to put nearby schools under a hold and secure order on Wednesday.

Toronto Police and paramedics responded to a building in the Gilder Dr.-Eglinton Ave. E. area around 3:45 p.m. for a shooting.

Upon arrival, they found a man without vital signs. CPR was performed on the victim, who was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Police say he was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The suspect fled the scene and no suspect description has been released.

A pair of area schools, Glen Ravine Junior Public School and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy, were placed under a hold and secure as a precautionary measure during the investigation. It has since been lifted.
