Durham police charge former education teacher with 2018 sex assault

Durham Regional Police want to make sure there are no other victims after charging a 35-year-old former education assistant with an historic sexual assault in connection with a 2018 incident at an area school.

Authorities say they charged Ashley Jansen of Baltimore, Ont., with sexual assault and sexual interference on Sept. 21, 2022, after a victim came forward in August 2022.

The accused was an employee of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board from 2010 -2021 but the name of the school is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact Det. Rabishaw of the Special Victims Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5327.

Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
