Four dead, two injured after string of deadly violence rocks Toronto

Four people are dead, including a 17-year-old boy, following a fatal string of violence across the city over a 24-hour period that also left two people injured.

The 17-year-old was gunned down in a Scarborough shooting that prompted police to put nearby schools under a hold and secure order on Wednesday.

Toronto Police and paramedics responded to a building in the Gilder Dr.-Eglinton Ave. E. area around 3:45 p.m. for a shooting.

They found a male without vital signs. CPR was performed and the victim was rushed to a trauma centre. Police say he died in hospital.

The suspect fled the scene and no description has been released.

Earlier, two overnight stabbings left three people dead and two other injured Wednesday morning.

One happened in an Etobicoke building on Bergamot Ave. near Islington Ave. at about 1:43 a.m. Residents heard a woman pounding on several doors on the fourth floor pleading for help.

“Somebody was in the hall and woke me up. ‘Help me! Help me! Somebody help me,” said Ron Howarth. “It was bang, bang, bang on the door.”

Howarth said firefighters told him to stay in his apartment during the investigation.

“It scares you when you know someone is in real serious trouble but you don’t know if you should safely open the door,” Howarth said.

Colin Henry, 68, and Veronica Henry, 67, were found slain in an apartment. Alpha Henry, 28, was arrested nearby and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Residents said the fourth-floor apartment sealed off with police tape were newer tenants.

Evidence markers were on the walls and door knobs beside blood stains in the fourth-floor hallway and in a staircase.

A neighbour next door said he heard the police and first responders arriving just feet outside his door.

“I thought it was some sort of fire incident,” said Tonna Psikaogu. “I didn’t know it was a stabbing. When I found out I was really shaken.”

Psikaogu’s family is also new to the building.

“I didn’t know them all too well but they seemed like really nice people,” he said. “I was reading that night. I did hear a few crashes but I didn’t think it was something that could have led to something as fatal as what happened.”

The second stabbing incident happened Tuesday at 10:18 p.m. near Jane St. and Finch Ave. West.

Police say there was an altercation between a group of people near a bike trail.

A 24-year-old man from Newcastle died at the scene.

A 25-year-old man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Haroon Imran, 22, of Toronto, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault.
