Fun on Wheels car show a hit at Windsor-area transportation museum

A little rain didn’t dampen the fun at the 46th annual Fun on Wheels car show at the Canadian Transportation Museum Sunday afternoon.

The show drew about 200 vintage and classic cars of all types said event coordinator Donna Shilson. The crowds ran smaller than usual, likely because of on and off rain that Windsor and Essex County region received throughout the day.

“Normally we’d have quite a few more but everybody was leery on the weather,” Shilson said. “Nobody likes to open their hood when it’s raining. Nobody likes to see their car get wet, period.”

But Shilson said taking the weather into consideration, organizers were pleased with the turnout, estimating about 500 spectators came out to enjoy the car show.

“It’s just a fun day,” she said.

“I’m happy we were able to do it for the people that are here. We do it because it’s an event they want.”

Also at the show were an automotive flea market, ’50’s diner-style meal, food trucks and door prizes.

Shilson said she wanted to thank the many volunteers — “too many to count” — who help make the event possible.

“We have a ton of volunteers, and that’s what keeps us afloat.”
