Gas Monkey Garage auctioning 27 classics on BaT

Texas-based car customizers Gas Monkey Garage, stars of the Discovery Channel’s Fast N’ Loud TV series, started September 7 selling off a collection of some 27 cars, trucks, and bikes via online auction site Bring a Trailer, highlighted by the renowned “King T” hot rod. The listings — all offered at no reserve — will close one week later, on September 14.

The cars apparently come from the personal collection of Gas Monkey proprietor Richard Rawlings, and include everything from survivor classics to far-out modern customs. The centrepiece of the sale is undoubtedly the King T, a famous Ford T-bucket-style hot rod modified in the early 1960s by the legendary Gene Winfield and Don Tognotti, which in 1964 won the prestigious America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award before going on to be memorialized on the covers of magazines and in scale-model and Hot Wheels form. Rawlings picked up the iconic purple-metalflake 327-Chevy-powered T-bucket in 2016.

But it’s far from the only hot rod on offer, with a steel-body ’32 Ford up for grabs, too, as well as a shoebox ’50 Ford. Uncustomized pre-war listings include two Ford Model A Tudors, as well as a ’36 and ’37 Ford.

The Gas Monkey Garage auction also sees listed a trio of Mustangs – a modified K-code ’65 fastback, a ’65 hardtop, and ’68 ragtop – as well as two first-gen Corvettes, a ’59 and a ’62. Blended into all this Americana are a clean 1979 Porsche 928; and a low-mile 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo.

On the truck front, the sale will include a lowered 1987 Chevrolet outfitted with a utility bed; a lifted 2002 Chevrolet Silverado monster show truck; and a standard-height 1957 Ford F-100 with some great patina. One of the newest offerings is a 2022 Ford Bronco V6 Badlands.

Another dozen-plus listings include some real oddballs, from a 1986 Zimmer Quicksilver; to a Kurtis-style midget race car. The auctions are capped off by the chance to bid on a Gas Monkey Garage “experience” – including a shop tour and lunch with Rawlings – to benefit the Gas Monkey Foundation community service charity.

Check back on Bring a Trailer on September 14 as the auctions will close in the order they were uploaded through the day today; the fact each is being listed at no reserve means no matter the top bid, everything’s getting sold.
