Impaired driver crashed into tree, East Algoma OPP say

A 65-year-old Iron Bridge man is facing charges after a pickup truck crashed into a tree Sept. 3.

East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were called around 6 p.m. regarding a crash on the Shaw Dam Road.

"Police later located the pickup truck in Iron Bridge after a second traffic complaint regarding the same vehicle being operated in an erratic manner," OPP said in a news release Tuesday.

"An odour of alcoholic beverage was detected emanating from the driver's breath. Police arrested the driver after a roadside test was completed."

The accused has been charged with impaired driving and driving without a license. He has a court date of Oct. 6 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River.

"The OPP reminds motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive," police said.

"Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122."
