Missing Georgia mom found dead, naked and burned in ravine

A missing Georgia mom who was found dead earlier this month was discovered naked with severe burns on her body, and “grasping a small tree.”

Debbie Collier, 59, disappeared on Sept. 10 — the same day she sent her daughter, Amanda Bearden, a disturbing message, WAGA reported.

“They are not going to let me go, love you,” it read. “There is a key to the house in the blue flower pot by the door.”

The cryptic message was sent along with a transfer of $2,385 from her Venmo account to her daughter’s.

Bearden immediately called her mother’s phone “but she did not pick up,” the missing persons report read.

Bearden told investigators that her mother’s car was in the shop at the time and that she left home in a rental car with only her driver’s licence and bank card.

The following day, authorities tracked the rental about 100 kilometres away, where the vehicle was “unlocked and unoccupied,” the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office reported.

A red tote bag and “what appeared to be the remains of a fire” were discovered nearby.

Investigators soon found a blue tarp with burn marks and “a nude female laying on her back, grasping a small tree with her right hand” who was “obviously deceased,” according to the incident report, obtained by the outlet.

Her remains were “apparently burned with what appeared to be charring to her abdomen.”

The report stated that Bearden, who arrived at the crime scene “in a hysterical state,” told investigators that her mother had no mental health issues or “suicidal tendencies,” and that she had a bad back and would not have voluntarily gone into the wooded area where she was found.

An official cause of death has not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.
