Professor cries ‘racism’ after backlash for wishing Queen ‘excruciating’ death

A university professor who wished the Queen an “excruciating death” blames the backlash she’s received on racism.

Uju Anya, a black applied linguistics professor at Carnegie Mellon University, said it is “telling” that she and other people of colour are being slammed for their negative opinions about Queen Elizabeth while videos of Irish people “doing the Riverdance” is laughed at.

“I see it for what it is: racism,” Anya told the Guardian.

“Not only that, I’m a black woman who’s very vocally left-leaning who speaks very openly on anti-racism, critical race theory and queer rights,” she continued. “Put it all together, and I’m definitely the juiciest target to rally internet hate.”

What Anya may not have been aware of is the TikTok video of Irish dance group Cairde performing to Another One Bites the Dust was filmed in January and only just resurfaced.

The video has since been flagged as presented out of context, theDaily Mail reported.

Fans at a Shamrock Rovers soccer game chanting “Lizzy’s in a box” were also slammed.

Last week, Anya took to Twitter to share just how satisfying it was for her to learn the Queen’s health had taken a turn for the worse.

“I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying,” she tweeted on the day of the Queen’s death. “May her pain be excruciating.”

Carnegie Mellon released a statement condemning her tweet: “Free expression is core to the mission of higher education, however, the views she shared absolutely do not represent the values of the institution, nor the standards of discourse we seek to foster.”

Since making the remarks about the Queen, Anya received support from fellow faculty members and students.

There’s even a petition backing Anya’s claims, stating she has faced “violent threats, harassment and abuse,” and called the university’s admonishment of her “unacceptable and dehumanizing.”

“When I heard that the woman was dying, I rejoiced,” she told the Guardian. “Would you not if you heard that your oppressor was dying?”

Anya admitted this isn’t the first time she was blasted for her views.
