This Bud’s for you — but only in specific places and times.
As in, those who plan to drink at the 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar need to know the rules first as alcohol consumption is heavily restricted.
Tournament organizers have agreed to let World Cup sponsor Budweiser sell beers in stadiums and designated fan zones for the soccer competition that begins on Nov. 20, according to the New York Daily News.
Alcohol can also be found inside hotels but not until after 6:30 p.m. local time even though some games begin as early as 1 p.m.
“The fanfest will serve from 6:30 p.m., but will attract a lot of families and children and we want to give them opportunity to be in alcohol-free zone for certain parts of the day,” Qatar 2022 chief executive Nasser Al Khater told ESPN during a press conference.
“Later, fans will have alcohol readily available.”
Game attendees are also being warned not to bring booze into the country for personal consumption.
“There are specific measures,” Col. Jassim Abdulrahim Al Sayed of the safety and security operations committee told ESPN at a news conference. “I think alcohol will not be allowed through the airport and suitcases.”
Those imbibing can reportedly land behind bars for six months for drinking in public and get a fine up to $800.
