Tulsa TV news anchor suffers 'the beginnings of a stroke' while on air

There were some anxious moments for an Oklahoma TV news anchor on Saturday.

NBC affiliate KJRH news anchor Julie Chin revealed on her Facebook page that she might have suffered the beginning of a stroke live on air after she started to struggle with reading the teleprompter, reported the New York Post.

Chin wound up apologizing to viewers, saying, “I’m sorry, something is going on with me this morning,” before throwing to meteorologist Annie Brown for a weather update.

The anchor, who failed to return to the air for the remainder of the broadcast, was rushed to hospital.

“My co-workers recognized the emergency situation unfolding and called 911,” Chin said in a Facebook post late Sunday, where she also shared a photo of her in the hospital.

“The past few days are still a little bit of a mystery, but my doctors believe I had the beginnings of a stroke live on the air Saturday morning. Some of you witnessed it firsthand, and I’m so sorry that happened. The episode seemed to have come out of nowhere.”

She recalled losing partial vision in one eye and added that a short time later, her hand and arm went numb.

“Then, I knew I was in big trouble when my mouth would not speak the words that were right in front of me on the teleprompter,” said her Facebook post.

The anchor said she underwent a string of tests in the hospital to determine the cause of her on-air episode.

“At this point, doctors think I had the beginnings of a stroke, but not a full stroke,” Chin revealed.

“There are still lots of questions, and lots to follow up on, but the bottom line is I should be just fine.”
