Pisceze knows what it’s like to be a kid growing up without a backpack for the first day of school.
Or a hot meal, new clothes or even a bedroom.
“We lived in a car,” she said, joking she just thought they were “out for a long drive.”
So it was no surprise this woman, now in her early 20s, would write music and lyrics about it.
“It was an outlet for me,” she said in an interview, adding no matter how challenging, “I wouldn’t change a thing.”
It has given her an inner strength to push through in the tough entertainment business, where she now has some wind at her back and is ready to ride some killer waves to the top. Understanding poverty, she also appreciated the upgrade from four tires being the only thing that kept her from the street, to a tiny apartment over an ice cream shop.
Now she’s been on MuchMusic, showcased on Triller’s Artist Spotlight and included among 19 rising Canadians in the RBCxMusic Program, designed to showcase and elevate emerging Canadian musicians and recording artists in Canada.
Now, before we go any further, when you see the name Pisceze, you may have a difficult time pronouncing it. Think the zodiac water sign of Pisces. That’s how you say it.
“Pisces people are known for being emotionally sensitive, gracious, and emotionally aware,” say astrologers. “Pisces characters are regarded for being among the most sympathetic of the zodiac signs, and they will go to great lengths to ensure the happiness of those around them. They’re also creative and imaginative.”

It’s the perfect name for the Toronto musical and video artist because that describes her. If you are not into the indie Toronto music scene, where she has been making some serious noise of late, you may not know her name.
But you soon may.
Pisceze has a new song out called Crush that industry people are so excited about, she’s heading this month to Los Angeles to film a video with a surprise Hollywood rapper set to make a cameo. Her latest song and video, Red Handed, presents her songwriting, singing and acting talents that could lead her into film and television as well.
Pisceze’s journey is certainly the stuff of movies. She’s the offspring of a Korean mom and Japanese dad, was born in Japan and moved to the GTA as a child. She understood what it was like to not fit in.
Now she uses her music to help others fit in.
She recently held an event and show at The Drake Hotel to help raise money to assist families with school supplies and even went to the local Walmart to purchase those supplies herself.
“I wanted to give back to the community by putting the money we’ve made from the concert towards purchasing school supplies for families with young kids getting ready to go back to school,” she said. “My father always said ‘one day you will have the power to make a change, use it well.’ That always stuck with me.”
She hopes her songs and videos inspire people. They are pretty slick and the sound, fashion and style is all Pisceze, who is very hands-on when it comes to her art.
This R&B, soul and new music song stylist stands out to me like July Talk and The Glorious Sons did when I wrote about them as they were first starting out. They went on to win Junos and have attracted fans from all around the world.
Pisceze’s music, genre and approach is different than those two but her drive, passion, talent, devotion to fans and work ethic is similar.
It’s going to be fun to watch her journey in the years ahead. Wherever Pisceze’s horoscope predicts, she promises to always be the same person who lived in a car while harbouring the big dreams she’s now achieving.
