We can't believe this 10-foot-wide VW sedan is real

Sure, Volkswagen may market its Lamando sedan in China as a wide, roomy family sedan, but if you ask some consumers there, it could still use more space. Like TikTok user justinbuildcars, who just wasn’t satisfied with the five-seater’s capacity, even in long-wheelbase Lamando L trim. So he added some more.

Videos from the car customizer’s TikTok, spotted by outlet Carscoops, show off what he’s dubbed the “Lamando 5XL.” In profile, it cuts the same line as a stock Lamando, but look at it from the back or front and you’ll notice, well, it’s had some shoulder room added.

Yes, justinbuildcars apparently added a few extra feet to the right-hand side of the car, stretching it to a total 9.84 feet wide, versus the stock six feet. The added girth opens up room for an extra seat up front, and two more in the back, for a total of eight passengers (though in one clip, justinbuildcars says he’s successfully stuffed 10 people in the 5XL).

We’re having a hard time believing this “wide-body” Volkswagen is real, but there is lots of footage of it from a variety of angles to shore up its credibility, including one of the TikTok channel host standing in the extra space in the engine bay. Additional evidence suggests the Lamando 5XL can still drive, too, even though underhood shots reveal the front-wheel-drive sedan doesn’t have any sort of coupling between the engine and the right-side wheel.

We’ve seen quite a few ‘Shops in our time, but still can’t quite the trust the pixels on this one. What do you think of this viral Volkswagen sensation?
