Weeding out an allegedly illegal dispensary in Oshawa

Three people face charges as investigators try to weed out an allegedly illegal cannabis dispensary in Oshawa.

Durham Regional Police say officers executed a search warrant for a third time in just over two months at Oshaweed on King St. W., west of Centre St., on Tuesday evening and arrested the shop’s owner and two associates.

Another search warrant was subsequently executed at a residence in Woodbridge.

“In total, investigators seized over $45,000 in cannabis and cannabis products,” Sgt. George Tudos said Wednesday.

Trung Nguyen, 35, of Woodbridge, is charged with three counts of possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling and possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5000.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Steven Thompson, 40, of Oshawa, is charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5000 and failure to comply with an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.

Thomas Perez, 21, of Woodbridge is charged with obstructing a peace officer and possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5000. He was released on an undertaking.

Police previously executed a search warrant at Oshaweed on July 16, seizing cannabis, cash and other cannabis products valued at more than $66,000.

A 47-year-old employee was charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.

And on Aug. 3, cops executed a search warrant at the pot shop and seized cannabis, cash and other products worth $25,000.

A 40-year-old employee was charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.
