Angelina Jolie is stepping up her fight with Brad Pitt as the former couple continue to wage war over Chateau Miraval — a French winery they bought together more than a decade ago.
In new court documents obtained by Page Six and Variety, Jolie alleges that the Bullet Train star, 58, “choked one of the children and struck another in the face” during a fight on a private plane in 2016.
“At one point, he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children,” Jolie claims.
Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie earlier this year after she sold her stake in the winery to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler. He maintained that they had a deal not to sell their share of Chateau Miraval without the consent of one another.
“Jolie consummated the purported sale without Pitt’s knowledge, denying Pitt the consent right she owed him and the right of first refusal her business entity owed his. She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Pitt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval,” his suit alleges. Per Page Six, the suit also claimed that Miraval has become “Pitt’s passion” since the divorce.
In response, Jolie, who maintained “no such agreement ever existed,” countersued Pitt accusing him of physical abuse.
The Maleficent star, 47, has previously alleged her ex-husband was verbally and physically abusive with their children – Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and 14-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – including the incident on a private plane involving eldest son Maddox. A few days after the flight, Jolie filed for divorce. Her attorney said it was “for the health of the family.”
According to new details in her countersuit, Pitt “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her” during the altercation. Jolie’s legal team claims the pair started arguing when the actor accused her of being “deferential” to their children with the fight quickly becoming physical.
“Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall,” the countersuit reads. “Pitt then punched the ceiling of the plane numerous times, prompting Jolie to leave the bathroom.”
The countersuit claims that Pitt attempted to fight one of their kids after the child voiced their support for Jolie.
“When one of the children verbally defended Jolie, Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him,” the countersuit states. “To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow. The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying.”
Pitt was previously investigated for alleged child abuse over the plane incident, but authorities elected not to pursue charges. In 2019, during press rounds for Ad Astra, the Oscar winner revealed he had gotten sober.
“I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges,” he told the New York Times.
He also spoke about his battles with alcohol in a 2017 profile for GQ.
“I mean, we have a winery. I enjoy wine very, very much, but I just ran it to the ground. I had to step away for a minute,” he said. “I was a professional. I was good.”
