Bentley Bentayga's new hybrid trims aim for 43 km of electric range

Bentley has announced two new trims in its Bentayga lineup, the S and Azure, that both receive hybrid powertrains and enhanced range targeting around 43 kilometres (27 miles) on electric power alone. Both will be powered by a 3.0L V6 engine, electric motor, and new 18.0-kWh battery that Bentley says can go from “zero-emission EV mode to thrilling full-throttle acceleration.” Bentley claims the electric motor alone boasts 134 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, helping the Bentayga Hybrid run to 100 km/h from zero in 5.3 seconds.

The two trims represent somewhat of a different mood, giving owners the choice of sportier features, in the Bentayga S; or a calm oasis, in the Bentayga Azure. Rest assured that, despite the differing moods, the marque has ensured customers won’t feel like EV range or performance has been compromised.

The S Hybrid is basically the greener version of the Bentayga S, but comes with “enhancements in the engine bay,” meaning an exhaust note in the cabin, likely from a sound symposer. The S Hybrid gets black side sills and door mirrors, dark-tint headlamps, 22-inch wheels, as well as a Speed-style tailgate spoiler.

Inside, Bentley promises a sporty ambience with digital instrumentation that features ‘performance’ design dials — as seen in the Bentayga Speed — with a PHEV power metre.

The Azure Hybrid prioritizes comfort and a relaxing journey. Developers enlisted the help of a neuroscientist to help consider external factors — light, in-car posture, thermal comfort, etc. — that influence stress, and are key to defining “well-being behind the wheel.” It also offers up to 22-way adjustability for the front seats, as well as, of course, heated and ventilated chairs. On the exterior, the Azure Hybrid features bright chrome lower bumper grilles, Azure badging, and 22-inch ten-spoke wheels.

With the addition of the two hybrid powertrains, Bentley is on its way to ensuring a fully hybrid lineup by 2025, right in time for the launch of its first Bentley Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).
