With the winners of the past three Rocket Richard Trophies going head-to-head on Thursday, it’s no wonder that the over/under for total goals between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals has been set at 6.5.
Bet on them hitting the over.
After all, Auston Matthews and Alex Ovechkin could probably combine for seven goals on their own. And that’s not taking into account what Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares might do. Or the fact that Toronto and Washington combined to average 7.09 goals per game last season.
For that reason — and the fact that the Leafs and Capitals are both playing on the second of back-to-back nights and might not have the legs to skate back on defence — I’m expecting a high-scoring game, especially if Washington remembers how to score on former goalie Ilya Samsonov.
