After leading the NHL in goals in back-to-back years, it’s not surprising that Auston Matthews is heavily favoured (+190) to win the Rocket Richard Trophy again this season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs sniper scored 60 goals in 73 games last season and had a league-leading 41 goals in 52 goals in 2020-21.
“It looks so nice,” Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon said of Matthews’ shot. “The technique he has, the power, it’s just so pretty to look at. The rhythm of it, everything. He definitely shot a million pucks as a kid.”
Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl, who finished second with 55 goals last season, has +600 odds to win the Rocket Richard Trophy, followed by Oilers teammate Connor McDavid (+650) and nine-time winner Alex Ovechkin (+800) of the Washington Capitals. After that, there’s a huge drop-off, with Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov and Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor (+1,400) rounding out the top-5.
