New Porsche 911 convertible goes digital for gauges, suggest spy shots

It won’t surprise you to learn the upcoming Porsche 911 Convertible will wear a revised front bumper – with active-aero, vertically oriented slats in the air intakes – much like its fixed-roof brethren. It might also not surprise you the rear bumper, too, will get a refreshen-ing for generation 992.2, nor that the car in these spy shots, taken in the Rockies, has a good amount of camouflage over that area, especially the lower valance.

But what might be a revelation is that these sneaky-sneaky photogs managed to snap some images of the interior, too, and found that the German automaker is finally ditching the analog instruments in the drop-top sports-car, giving the new 911 Convertible a digital gauge cluster.

This series of photos tips us off to a few other changes in store for the rear-engine icon, like the fact there’s significant camo over the air outlets on the engine cover out back, too; ditto the crafty way the marque has concealed the details on the daytime running lights and turn signals on this particular mule.

Our source also called attention to the exhaust outlets, which resemble those of the Cayman GT4 GTS 4.0; that may be because, if the rumours are true, the new 992.2-gen base model is said to perhaps be getting a variant of that naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six, albeit perhaps with a smaller displacement.

What else lies in store for the next-gen Porsche 911 Convertible? We’re going to have to wait to find out, though judging by the prototype in these pics, we won’t have to wait long.
