Vancouver police say a repeat offender has been caught committing a new crime barely two hours after his release from jail.
Two VPD officers were on patrol in East Vancouver at about 3 p.m. on Sunday when they spotted a man walking near Main and Hastings streets.
“The officers were familiar with the man, because they’d arrested him the day prior for a different offence,” said VPD spokesman Sgt. Steve Addison.
They followed him downtown, where he walked into a retail store where, police allege he stole $330 worth of leggings. He was arrested.
At the time, Addison notes, he “had been out of custody for two hours, 18 minutes.”
Mohammed Majidpour, 45, has been charged with theft under $5,000 and remains in custody. His next court appearance is Oct. 27.
Majidpour has a lengthy criminal record, and is facing charges for an attack on a woman late last month that police allege involved racial slurs.
