TTC opening abandoned 'ghost station' for Halloween fun

The TTC is opening up its abandoned “ghost station” Lower Bay for some spooky Halloween fun this weekend.

Lower Bay Station, which has been used only for movie shoots, events like Doors Open and this weekend’s family-friendly gathering since being closed to the public in 1966, will open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ahead of Halloween.

There will be nut-free candies and a Halloween-themed subway train, along with free giveaways at the usually closed site, the TTC said in a release.

The TTC added there will be a garage sale, TTC-themed merchandise for sale and tales about the movies that have been filmed at the station.

In keeping with the theme, they also said: “Keep a look-out for the ‘Lady in Red’ (a ghost who has been rumoured to haunt the station).”

Lower Bay Station was abandoned, but it had initially been planned, when the Bloor-Danforth subway line was built, to link it with the Bloor tracks west of Yonge Station. Like St. George Station, the intent was to have Lower Bay connect between the Danforth and University lines.

Lower Bay Station was only open to the public for six months though.

Admission this weekend is $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 years and under. All proceeds will go to the United Way Greater Toronto.
