A third cryptocurrency heavyweight has died in the last few weeks under mysterious circumstances.
The latest to die, according to the Daily Mail, is Russian billionaire Vyacheslav Taran, 53, who was killed in a Nov. 25 helicopter crash near the French resort town of Villefranche-sur-Mer after taking off from Lausanne, Switzerland.
A 35-year-old experienced French pilot was also killed.
Other cryptocurrency entrepreneurs to meet mysterious ends include Tiantian Kullander, 30, who died “in his sleep” last week, and Nikolai Mushegian, 29, who drowned at a beach in Puerto Rico. The latter had tweeted fears about the CIA and Mossad murdering him.
Mystery now apparently surrounds Taran’s death as the accident happened in clear weather and another passenger reportedly cancelled last minute.
Taran, the co-founder of trading and investment platform Libertex and Forex Club, was in a single-engined H130 helicopter when it crashed at around 1 p.m.
Nice’s deputy public prosecutor visited the crash site and said the fault of a third party could not be ruled out. A formal investigation is underway by the French authorities and Airbus, makers of the H130.
