South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks beat two top-10 teams to finished the regular season.
No. 19 South Carolina heads into the Gator Bowl against No. 21 Notre Dame with some serious momentum and even more to prove.
The Gamecocks (8-4) finished the regular season with back-to-back massive wins against two top-10 ranked teams: then-No. 6 Tennessee, 63-38, on Nov. 19 and against then-No. 10 Clemson, 31-30, on Nov. 26.
A win over a storied program like Notre Dame would be the cherry on top, as the Gator Bowl highlights a slate of four college football postseason games to be played Friday, Dec. 30: Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Sun Bowl, Gator Bowl and Arizona Bowl.
Notre Dame climbed back into the top 25, winning five out of its last six games, but fell to then-No. 6 USC, 38-27, in the regular-season finale.
Currently the Irish (8-4) are 2.5-point favorites over the Gamecocks.
Quarterback play will be key in this matchup, as Spencer Rattler confirmed he will play for South Carolina in the Gator Bowl. Rattler finished the regular season with 2,780 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. He also threw 11 interceptions.
Tyler Buchner will get the start for Notre Dame, replacing Drew Pyne, who started 10 games for the Irish after Buchner got hurt early in the season. Pyne entered the transfer portal and is now headed to Arizona State.
In the only two games he played this season, Buchner threw for 378 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
