December is a time for holiday events, both traditional and new. Arts reporter Jocelyn Bennett has highlighted a few of the events bringing Christmas cheer this month.
The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra brings back the long-running holiday tradition of Handel’s Messiah, in a concert and a sing-along. The program features guest conductor Cosette Justo Valdés, singers McKenzie Warriner, Oli Guselle, Spencer McKnight, Brenden Friesen and the SSO Chorus.
“What I love about Messiah is musically, there’s something for everyone’s taste … As a singer, I can add my own embellishments to this beautiful, musical painting created by Handel,” said Warriner, who sings with the SSO for the first time.
“Communal singing is not something we get to do all the time. I think it’s really important to make music, regardless of your ability or training. It’s good for your soul,” said returning soloist McKnight.
