EXCITEMENT OF THE SEASON

The Christmas season is a perfect time to put aside your bias and enjoy. Personally, I love most everything associated with a non-religious Christmas. Santa Claus, reindeer, elves, the North Pole, Christmas lights, family parties, tree trimming, turkey and more. The lessons learned from giving rather than receiving last a lifetime. I remind myself that not everyone is as fortunate as me. The excitement leading up to Christmas is the best. Children’s imagination running wild. Anticipation building to Christmas Eve. Santa on the radar. Christmas morning. All pure joy. We need a little joy in our life. No matter your religious persuasions there is something special for everyone this time of year and Toronto provides a perfect backdrop to celebrate and give any way you like. So don’t take offence when I offer my special greeting. I’m simply saying that I wish you well no matter who you are or where you are coming from.

Merry Christmas to all.

(We wish you a Merry Christmas as well)

RISING COSTS

Explain this to me. How is constantly raising interest rates going to magically lower the cost of food? It will not. Every time I enter a store, I feel like I am picked up by my heels and every last bit of money is shaken loose from my pockets or my credit card is worn smooth. It is a sad day when the brand of coffee we enjoy sold for $8.99 but is now selling for $25.99. Really? And it is not like there is any food shortages driving up the costs, for the store shelves are jam packed in big-city and small-town Ontario. One day grocery stores may end up as museums, where customers just walk up and down the aisles looking at the food on the shelves and saying, ‘Remember when.’ There is nothing personal or enjoyable about a grocery shopping experience anymore. That is over. Can you say, ‘Bah, humbug.’

(The cost of everything is going up and incomes are not keeping pace. Just wait till we get wallet with a whole raft of Trudeau’s tax increases in the new year)

OXYMORONS

Re “Dictionary not woke enough” (Jamil Jivani, Dec. 21): And speaking of ‘harmful’ words, in their cuckoo “Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative,” Stanford University should have included the words ‘higher education’ because it only confirms the meaning of the word ‘oxymoron.’

(Or just moron)

THE LITTER OF IT ALL

Re “Tims putting a lid on plastic waste” (Postmedia Network, Dec. 22): It does not matter what Tim Hortons stops the use of — as in plastic cup lids or plastic stir sticks or plastic utensils, I still have to clean up my driveway, front yard and ditch after those that use Tim’s inside or the drive-thru for their java fix drive past and toss Tim’s packages out the window.
