TAIT: Titular stuffed toys in Oil Kings' Teddy Bear Toss help out Santas Anonymous

Dear Teddy Bear:

I know you might be scared as you try to get some sleep Saturday.

It was an eventful day for you, wasn’t it?

I mean, you made your first trip to Rogers Place, which can be overwhelming — in a good way, of course — for anyone.

I know you might be a bit small, so going into such a big place can be daunting.

And you were probably — though I can’t say for certain — going to your first junior hockey game: those pesky Red Deer Rebels facing off against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

You were carried up the stairs by your host and found your seats.

Hope they were good seats!

Now, I want to say a few words about hour host — the person who took you to the game.

I know they have a very king-sized heart.

Because they took you to the game.

You see, they are helping 630 CHED’s Santas Anonymous, and in doing so, you’re going are having a new home.

And you get to meet your new best friend on Christmas morning!

Like, how cool is that?

And if it wasn’t for you sitting in your favourite position on the floor waiting to meet them, they probably wouldn’t have any Christmas presents.

I am proud of you. Very proud of you.

Because you’ve had to endure the most scary thing you had in your life.

Ever.

I hope you had enough fur to protect you from your big tumble Saturday night.

I bet you remember it.

When the goal horn sounded your host took you out of your bag, and hopefully, gave you a good luck hug.

Then, they tossed you — as in Teddy Bear Toss — on to the Rogers Place ice surface with thousands of your friends.

In fact, last year 12,409 teddy bears landed on the ice which made thousands of Edmonton children’s Christmas brighter.

Dare I say … cozier?

I know you might have been scared — and very c-c-c-c-cold on the ice.

You might have been afraid, too, of the great young people on skates with shovels, ferrying you into a group — not a pile — with other bears.

Those skate sailors were not there, in any way, to frighten you.

They were there to take to to your new, temporary home: the 630 CHED’s Santas Anonymous depot.

I think you might be there for a week or so, before the big delivery drive from Santas depot over there on the north end.

So, please: get some rest.

If you hurt anything, please take care of it.

Your biggest role will begin Christmas morning.

I know, without question, you’ll be a champion.

Your biggest fan,

Cam
