NEW YORK CITY, New York: New York City police have arrested a woman for stealing presents from beneath Robert De Niro's Christmas tree.
The woman broke into the actor's apartment, located in the city's the Upper East Side, early on the morning of December 21.
Arthur Tsui, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department, said that police officers saw the 30-year-old woman enter the basement of the building on East 65th Street at around 2.45 a.m. local time and found signs of forced entry.
The woman was known to police for a string of previous burglaries. Officers caught her inside the apartment stealing items, he added.
ABC News reported that De Niro, 79, was home during the incident and came downstairs after hearing commotion.
Tsui confirmed that the woman is in police custody and charges against her were pending.
