Jodie Lynn Veilleux admitted being a party to a break and enter and kidnapping. Garrioch was later shot in a rural area near Humboldt.
Instead of going to trial as scheduled, Jodie Lynn Veilleux pleaded guilty to five charges in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Allan Douglas Garrioch near Humboldt nearly three years ago.
Defence lawyer Greg Curtis requested the preparation of a pre-sentence report canvassing Gladue factors, which is expected to take four weeks to complete, and the case was adjourned to Feb. 9 for a contested sentencing hearing.
Appearing in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench in a grey sweatsuit on Monday, Veilleux pleaded guilty to being a party to the offences of unlawfully confining Garrioch’s girlfriend, breaking and entering to commit assault with a weapon, kidnapping with a firearm with intent to confine Garrioch and carrying a rifle and taser for a dangerous purpose.
Court heard Joshua Domenic Canevaro, his roommate Tristan Daniel Morrison, and Morrison’s friend Brettin Andrew Veilleux-Pelletier drove from Saskatoon to Prince Albert to pick up Veilleux’s husband, Steven Jaret Veilleux, before going to Humboldt to “teach Allan a lesson and get some revenge.”
Garrioch’s body was found in a rural area near Bruno, Sask. six days after he was shot in the neck.
Witnesses testified Morrison and Steven took Garrioch into the bush at gunpoint while Veilleux, Canevaro and Veilleux-Pelletier stayed in the vehicle.
Veilleux also pleaded guilty to helping her husband and Morrison escape after Garrioch was murdered.
An agreed statement of facts was entered as an exhibit after Veilleux’s pleas were confirmed. They will be presented to the court during sentencing, at which time the Crown indicated victim impact statements will also be read.
