CRIME SCENE: First Nation chief's headdress stolen in Mississauga

A headdress belonging to Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod was stolen when thieves took his Jeep Wrangler from a Mississauga hotel parking lot.

The headdress, which took two years of research to reconstruct, was inside the vehicle which was stolen around 3 a.m. Saturday, while parked at the Sandman Signature Mississauga hotel in the Matheson Blvd.-Dixie Rd. area.

“I ask that the perpetrators of this theft find it upon themselves to kindly return the headdress, this can be done anonymously, to the Sandman Signature Mississauga hotel or to one of the arenas where the event is taking place,” said McLeod, who was in Mississauga to attend a Little Native Hockey League tournament.

The tournament takes place Monday to Wednesday at Paramount Fine Foods Centre, Iceland Arena, Tomken Twin Arena, Meadowvale 4 Rinks, and Erin Mills Twin Arena.

Peel Regional Police say the stolen vehicle was a green 2022 Jeep Wrangler with Ontario licence plate CFRV260. Officers urge anyone with any information to call (905) 453-2121, ext. 1233.

Warrant issued in Whitby

Durham Regional Police have issued a warrant for a motorist who allegedly fled from police in Whitby on Friday night.

Police say Valter Pereira-Cabral, 29, of no fixed address, is wanted for flight from a police officer, obstructing a police officer and dangerous operation of a conveyance.

A driver was operating a vehicle with plates that didn’t match the car on Dundas St. around 7:30 p.m. when he pulled into a gas station with police in tow, according to investigators.

A man inside the car provided a false name and locked himself inside the vehicle before driving away erratically, fleeing from officers, police alleged.
